The National Press Club has awarded me an Excellence In Financial Journalism prize, in the Digital Disruption & Technology category!
Incredible to win alongside my heroes like Adele Ferguson and Edmund Tadros, who are pictured in Canberra receiving their awards yesterday. I unfortunately could not be at the ceremony, as I was overseas.

I’ve been named as a finalist in three categories at the 2018 IT Journalism Awards – best investigative journalism, best technology industry journalist and best reviewer.
Thanks to the judges for the honours, which are a terrific recognition of the work I performed as Technology Editor at Business Insider.
Earlier this month I started a new position as technology editor at Business Insider Australia. Media industry publication Influencing wrote this article on my change:
Business Insider backs Yoo as tech editor
Speaking to Influencing, Yoo said that he has been tasked with becoming the voice of Australia’s start-up scene, covering the stories behind their successes and failures, as well as the day-to-day bread and butter news from the likes of Telstra, Uber and Apple.
“I wanted the challenge of reporting to a broader audience about a broader range of topics,” said Yoo.

I’m honoured to announce I’m now deputy editor at technology business publication CRN. The title change is reflecting additional responsibilities I have taken on in the past few months – I’m now involved more in managing freelance writers and production of the print magazine.
Thanks to the entire team at CRN and nextmedia for the vote of confidence.
CRN has kindly promoted me to the position of senior journalist, as a recognition of my work in business and technology journalism the past couple of years. I’m very proud to accept this honour in addition to my Best New Journalist award received at the IT Journalism Awards in May.
I am pleased to announce that I won the Best New Journalist gong at the Optus IT Journalism Awards on Friday May 15.
With tremendous pride, I can say that I came out on top in a tough field of ten finalists. I have certainly leant a lot about the craft of journalism during my time at CRN, and appreciate the peer and industry recognition.
Accepting the Best New Journalist award
CRN itself had a successful night, winning Magazine of the Year. Our sister publication iTnews deservedly won Best News Coverage, with my colleague Allie Coyne taking out Best Business Technology Journalist.
A wonderful honour – I certainly didn’t receive a “Best New IT guy” award in my previous career, so this award affirms that I am now doing what I should’ve been doing all along.
